Also, below is a list of places worthy of note. Harstine Island has something for everyone, any age and interests. Leave the city life behind and enjoy the finer things in life, our little piece of heaven on Barmon’s Hartstine Island vacation home.

Harstine Island State Park Trail

Hike down into a lush ravine to a deserted beach on an island that has resisted time. Quiet Harstine Island State Park may very well be the best-kept secret in Puget Sound.

Jarrell Cove State Park

Jarrell Cove State Park is a 43-acre marine camping park with 3,500 feet of saltwater shoreline on the northwest end of Harstine Island in south Puget Sound. The forested island park is accessible by road and bridge and is off the beaten path.

McMicken Island State Park

McMicken is joined to Hartstene at low tide by a sandy bar or “tombolo,” about 30 feet wide. The first 100 yards west of the park are state park property, the rest of the bar is private. Walking the beach all around the island at low tide is intriguing because of all the sea life, plus there’s good bird and seal watching. Several trails criss-cross the island through the woods. Trails are narrow and twisting with tree roots in the paths making the walk a challenge. The tidelands are rich with seabirds, marine mammals, and shellfish including mussels, geoduck, horse, manila, and butter and littleneck clams.

Olympic National Park & Forest

World-class hiking trails lace the Olympic Mountain wilderness, leading from mountain streambeds through old growth forest to high-altitude ridgelines with breathtaking views of Hood Canal and beyond.

Olympic Staircase A Legacy of Fire: The eastern Olympics experience large scale natural fires every 300-400 years. See how nature has healed herself to towering giants of Douglas fir and natural plants.
